The main reason teams look for Profound alternatives is access. Profound's pricing page lists a free 7-day trial and custom Enterprise pricing only, with up to 9 answer engines. Four tools with published prices cover most of the same monitoring job, and all four start below $300 a month.
Prices below come from tryprofound.com, peec.ai, athenahq.ai, otterly.ai and scrunch.com, checked on 6 November 2026.
Why teams leave Profound
Profound now sells itself as an AI marketing platform rather than a monitor, and its pricing follows that ambition. The reasons to look elsewhere are practical.
- There is no self-serve paid plan. As of 6 November 2026 the pricing page shows two options: a free trial and Enterprise.
- The trial is a demo. It runs 50 prompts a day for 7 days on 3 engines, in one language and one region, with no history, no exports and no API.
- You pay for the content layer. AI Marketer credits, Agents, Context Manager and Profound Sheets are part of the pitch, and they are priced into an enterprise contract.
- The controls that justify that contract, SSO, SOC 2, all-time history and API access, matter to a security review at a large company and rarely to a 10-person marketing team.
None of that makes Profound a bad product. It makes it a poor fit for a team that wants to log in, pay by card and see its visibility score this afternoon.
The four alternatives
| Tool | Entry price | Engines | Prompts and capacity | Best job |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peec AI | $95/month | 3 active of 6 | 50 prompts, 1 project | Client-ready reporting |
| AthenaHQ | $295/month | 11 | Unlimited prompts, 3,600 credits | Recommendations and content actions |
| OtterlyAI | $29/month | 4, plus paid add-ons | 15 prompts | Cheap mention and sentiment watch |
| Scrunch | $250/month | 4, or 9 on Enterprise | 125 prompts, 5,000 responses | Site audits and page fixes next to tracking |
Peec AI
$95 for 50 prompts, $245 for 150, $495 for 350. Every plan includes 3 active models, unlimited users and unlimited competitors, and tracking runs daily. Agency plans run $245 to $795 for 3 to 25 client projects, with free pitch projects for prospects and unlimited client logins.
The published limits make Peec AI the easiest of the four to budget, and its dashboards are the ones clients tend to understand without a walkthrough. The weakness is engine coverage on self-serve plans: Perplexity, Claude and Grok sit on Enterprise, and an extra model costs $30 to $140 a month.
AthenaHQ
$295 a month buys 3,600 credits across 11 models with unlimited prompts and competitors. One credit is one AI response, so 3,600 credits is roughly 10 prompts a day across all 11 engines, or about 40 a day across three. The free plan carries 300 credits and 5 engines, which is enough to test the interface before paying.
AthenaHQ is the closest of the four to Profound's action layer. It ships a content optimization agent, on-page and off-page actions, and management of robots.txt and llms.txt for AI crawlers. Its agency programme adds discounted licences, pitch workspaces, GEO certification and a dedicated growth manager.
OtterlyAI
$29 a month for 15 prompts across 4 engines, $189 for 100 prompts, $489 for 400. Annual billing brings those to $25, $160 and $422 a month.
The catch is add-on pricing. Gemini and Google AI Mode cost $59 a month on Standard, Claude costs $109, and 100 extra prompts cost $99. A Standard plan with Claude lands at $298, close to AthenaHQ's Starter price. At the Lite tier, OtterlyAI is the cheapest way to watch mentions and sentiment for a single brand.
Scrunch
$250 a month for 125 prompts, 5,000 responses, 5 site audits, 5 user licences, one brand workspace and 4 LLMs, with a 7-day trial. Enterprise adds 9 LLMs, API access, SSO, unlimited countries and an agent experience layer.
Scrunch's difference is that the tracking sits next to site work: audits, page optimizations and content generation. If the plan is to fix pages rather than file reports, that combination is worth the $250.
What to check before you switch
- Ask for the answer text, not the score. Every tool in this category samples a prompt set, and models return different answers on repeated runs. Ask to see the underlying answer for a given question, country and language before you buy.
- Check whether mentions and citations are reported separately. A brand can be named in an answer while the link goes to a competitor's page. One blended score hides that.
- Price the engines you actually need. OtterlyAI's add-ons can double the bill. Peec AI charges per extra model. AthenaHQ includes 11 on Starter.
- Check how prompts are counted. AthenaHQ counts AI responses, Peec AI multiplies prompts by active models, OtterlyAI counts prompts. The same $300 buys different amounts of data under each.
Who each suits
- Peec AI. An agency reporting for 3 to 10 clients, or an in-house team that needs a price it can approve this quarter.
- AthenaHQ. One brand selling into many markets that wants recommendations and content actions beside the dashboard.
- OtterlyAI. A PR or brand team on a small budget that mainly watches sentiment and mentions.
- Scrunch. A team that will act on site fixes, not just track them.
- Stay on Profound. You need agents, traffic attribution, SSO and enterprise controls, and the annual contract is already approved.
Switching tools changes the dashboard, not the outcome. Visibility comes from the pages, the citations and the third-party sources AI engines read. A B2B AI SEO agency does that work and reports into whichever tool you keep.
